Final Exam

Stemming from Elle's initial query about how to describe this class, to Jonas's pedagogical interest in the design of the course, and taking into account everyone's astute observations in between -- Maria's questions about defining the 'human', Rolando's concern for community with(in) digital technologies, Andrew's speculations about an ontology of prosthetics, Amelie's hesitations about how sentience can be determined, Kalee's reflections on the balance of present/physical and online/simulated interactions, Joshua's hypothesis of the iPad as a partial-subject, Holly and Terra's ideas about shifting (new) media environments, Chris and Cait's charting of the accelerating penetrations of technologies in our everyday lives -- we have come up with a final exam that will let each of you articulate your thoughts about this course in a way that will help make sense of the whole year, and also give us a bearing on how such a class might be contextualized as an English class -- and perhaps thus be taught again in the near future (in some modified form).

Part A. Write a 250 word description of this class. This description should account for the goals and scope of our class, as well as the questions that our class has dealt with along the way. In other words, our hope is that through this final exam all of us will be able to see 13 different ways of coherently describing what we accomplished in "Reading (w/) the Digital Human." Your description should include mention of one specific text that we have discussed this year, explaining clearly how said text fits into the course and furthers its project.

Part B. Imagine you were going to teach this class in the future. Add a text of your own choosing to the syllabus, and explain in 100 words what this text will bring to the class (keeping in mind the course description from Part A).

*Please post your exam responses directly to the blog. You have until 11:00am, Thursday, 5/12/2011, to do so.
