This frustrates me. An e-reader cannot be a book, it is a different species of sensory input altogether. Putting a cover like this on an e-reader will not make it a book or even make it feel more like a book to me. Rather, I think it would put me off from even opening the cover to see the technology inside or recognizing the facade that has been created to create a false feeling of comfort to the owner. It takes the e-reader a step backwards for me. I don't know exactly why that cover pisses me off so much--it could be that it's just another stupid thing to buy marketed to easy targets like us, because it seems deceptive, or maybe because it's just an anticlimactic way to begin reading on something that is clearly not a book. Stop trying to be a book. In a word, ew.
I know right, Terra? I think it is particularly odd that one of the odd that one of the customization options is an embossed title that says, "This is not a book." No kidding? It looks like a book, it feel like a book, I sort of wish it was a book. There is something perverse about it.
I so agree. I saw that and it made my stomach turn. That and the one that says "BO/OK" especially. It's interesting that something like this so repels us, though, especially being people who sincerely love their reading in novel form.
