crazy long article, eight pages, but all about how this man was able to manipulate Google into getting his site on the first page of search results through bad reviews.

My boss and I were discussing this article and this company the other day. We write search engine optimization for companies so that their company is returned first or as close to it as possible. We do what is called white hat SEO that is to say above board techniques for increasing a company's profile. The alternative being black hat SEO which is using underhanded things like invisible text embedding and algorithms that fool Google's algorithm. This guys business is not really doing anything but being terrible and that is creating chatter which increases his standing on Google. Is it a sordid way to optimize your profile but... Fortunately Google has now modified their algorithm to include what is called "sentiment analysis" that will factor in the nature of the discussion and hopefully reduce people like DecorMyEyes from exploiting their negative press. Unfortunately, DecorMyEyes is still hitting pretty high on the list so it is clearly still not perfected.
