Cruz E-Reader... Bizarrely looks like the iPad...

What is Borders trying to pull here?

  1. It's not just Borders; the new Nook also looks eerily familiar. Granted, the original version of Barnes and Noble's e-reader was still a touch screen, but the home button was different. As much as I dislike Apple (although I love my iPad--I'm aware that that is contradictory) it seems as though they have certainly set the bar high in regards to other e-readers. And, unlike others, the iPad allows you to download the other e-reader formats--I don't think that Amazon's Kindle is about to let people use iBooks on their device. In any case, I think we're going to see e-readers take the path that Apple has laid the foundation for...although at this point I'm not all that sure whether that's a good thing.

  2. I think other companies would be idiots to not follow in Apple's footsteps, when one takes into consideration how well the iPad is selling. Of course companies are going to make what people will buy. The iPad is beginning to drive less functional ereaders out of the market-- the Kindle began the revolution, but the possibilities for refinement are endless, and the technology is by no means settled.

Sometime last year I think I'd mention that I'd like things to swing back in a book-ish direction-- something like traditional books printed on electronic paper which won't warp in the rain and interacts with you, maybe with each page having a different function. I'm still hoping for that.
